2.A translation mistake caused hiroshima bombing.

This bombing could have been prevented if the allies had a good translator. The Allies demanded Japan's immediate surrender following the Potsdam Declaration so Kentaro Suzuki, Japan's premiere at the time sent a response letter that contained the word "mokusatsu" which can mean a few different things. Suzuki wanted to say that he will think about the request, but the translator completely misinterpreted this word as he thought it meant Suzuki was ignoring their request. And we all know the result. Ten days after the USA launched a first-ever atomic bomb on Hiroshima.

So the Archduke wanted to go to the hospital to visit the survivors, but the chauffeur took the wrong turn that led the carriage straight to Gavrilo Princip who was hiding in a coffee shop just waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. And so he did. He fired two shots, killing Franz Ferdinand and his wife in the process. And it was at that moment that the World War One officially began.

9.A Bureaucrat's mistake led to the fall of the great Berlin wall.

This rather comical mistake happened during an East Germany politician's press conference. He just needed to inform the press about the relaxed travel restriction between East and West Germany, but since he didn't care to read the speech properly, he ended up talking about the travel rules being dropped completely. This simple mistake soon led to the fall of the infamous Berlin Wall.

10.The murder of cats caused the Great London Plague to spread.

Last but not least another catastrophe Londoners faced just one year before the Great Fire is the Great Plague, a disease that Londoners believed was caused by cats. As a result, they killed every cat they could find not knowing that by doing that they will actually make the disease much worse since there would be no one to kill the rats. This turned out to be one of the biggest blunders in history since the Great Plague killed about 100,000 people in just 18 months.
